из Панкисского ущелья. Машину вел Алекс Кавтарашвили, 1970 года
рождения. Рядом с ним находился Эльдар Маргошвили, 1968 года
рождения. Оба служили по контракту во внутренних войсках Грузии.
Проехав через селение Кабали, где живут в основном азербайджанцы, и
через соседствующее с ним грузинское село Баисубани, автомобиль
стал въезжать в лесной массив, где ждала засада. Шедшая навстречу
автомашина устроила аварию, а когда из первой машины вышли
пассажиры, над их головами раздались автоматные очереди и всем
было приказано лечь. Крымшамхалова, как самого ценного, взяли
живым. Остальных в упор расстреляли. Сопротивления со стороны
задержанных не было. "Поясами смертников" ни Батчаев, ни
Крымшамхалов не воспользовались.
В том же месяце с уже другими людьми возобновились переговоры о
покупке пленки с интервью Гочияева. Иногда нам казалось, что еще чуть-
чуть - и наши собеседники отдадут пленку бесплатно. Исходную сумму в
3 миллиона долларов сразу снизили до 500 тысяч. В конце концов
доторговались до 150 тысяч. Нам удалось договориться о присылке
первой минуты записи и транскрипта всего текста интервью с одной
существенной оговоркой: из текста будут удалены две фамилии –
сотрудника ФСБ, служащего теперь в Черкесске, старого знакомого
Гочияева, подставившего своего друга; и еще одного человека, случайно
увиденного Гочияевым в гостях у неназванного сотрудника ФСБ. Эти две
фамилии как раз и стоили 150 тысяч.
В январе 2003 года мы действительно получили эти материалы.
Вырезанные фамилии были обозначены как "К." и "Х.". Дальнейшие
многочасовые телефонные переговоры не увенчались успехом. Убедить
наших собеседников дать пленку бесплатно мы не смогли. В конце
февраля распечатка интервью Гочияева была передана Анне
Политковской для публикации в "Новой газете". 3 марта показания
Гочияева, хотя и не полностью, были опубликованы.

In the same month, negotiations resumed with other people about purchasing a tape with an interview of Achimez Gochiyayev.

- The initial amount of 3 million dollars was immediately reduced to 500 thousand.
- In the end, we bargained down to 150 thousand.
- We managed to agree on sending the first minute of the recording and a transcript of the entire interview text with one significant caveat: two names would be removed from the text – an FSB officer now serving in Cherkessk, an old acquaintance of Achimez Gochiyayev who set up his friend; and another person accidentally seen by Achimez Gochiyayev visiting an unnamed FSB officer.
- These two names were exactly what cost 150 thousand.
In January 2003, we indeed received these materials. The cut-out names were designated as "K." and "Kh.". Further hours of telephone negotiations were not successful. We were unable to convince our interlocutors to give the tape for free.
At the end of February, a printout of Achimez Gochiyayev's interview was handed over to Anna Politkovskaya for publication in "Novaya Gazeta". On March 3, Achimez Gochiyayev's testimony, although not in full, was published.
