Case Summary
On January 14, 2000, a verdict was issued and proclaimed in the case, according to which N.V. Zander was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 5 of Article 33 – Paragraph 'b' of Part 3 of Article 164 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced to imprisonment, and upon serving the term, she was released from custody in the courtroom.
Regarding the 'Appeal' on behalf of the so-called 'Volunteers of Russia,' this letter states that such an appeal was indeed received by the court from the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on September 8, 1999, in connection with which, and also taking into account the situation that had developed at that time in Moscow, the court administration took measures to strengthen its security during the days of court hearings in the case of N.V. Zander and others.

The strengthening of the security of the court building during the period of consideration of the above-mentioned case testifies to the fact that the threat of terrorist acts expressed in the 'Appeal' was assessed as real, in connection with which the above-mentioned preventive measure was carried out.
- By a letter from a department of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, from which it follows that the appeal, which mentioned the criminal case against N.V. Zander, was received by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation by mail. The conclusion that the mentioned appeal refers to the threat of terrorist acts was made based on its content: '...communications, buildings, etc. will be blown up,' in connection with which a decision was made to forward the letter to the FSB of the Russian Federation.

The forwarding by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the editorial office of 'Novaya Gazeta' of the received 'Appeals' with the threat of terrorist acts to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation – the body which, in accordance with current federal legislation, is tasked with the fight against terrorism – testifies to the fact that the threat expressed in the 'Appeals' was perceived by their representatives as real and forwarded for further verification by jurisdiction.
