This 1999 article from Kommersant details how Russian security services (FSB and MVD) might have prevented the Kashirskoye Highway apartment bombing by properly interrogating Tatyana Koroleva. Koroleva, the mistress of bombing organizer Achimez Gochiyayev, was detained on the night of September 13, 1999, hours before the explosion. The investigation traced Gochiyayev through his use of the stolen identity of the deceased Mukhit Laypanov to rent property for storing explosives. Despite Koroleva's knowledge of Gochiyayev's use of false documents and her direct personal connection to him, she was released from custody shortly after the Kashirka bombing and subsequently disappeared. The report highlights that Gochiyayev had rented a transit warehouse on Krasnodarskaya Street containing four tons of explosives and had unsuccessfully attempted to rent space in other residential buildings.
