Adam Dekkushev Interrogation Summary
Volgodonsk terrorist gave first testimony
INTERROGATION
Yesterday, investigators from the Russian FSB conducted the first interrogation of the Karachay terrorist Adam Dekkushev, who was extradited by the Georgian authorities the day before.
As it became known yesterday, during a special operation carried out in Western Georgia on Sunday evening, not one, but two terrorists were detained. While Adam Dekkushev is suspected of organizing the bombings of residential buildings in Moscow and Volgodonsk in 1999, the native of Chechnya captured with him, Ruslan Beshaev, turned out to be an ordinary member of illegal armed groups. Nevertheless, on Monday afternoon, both were sent from Tbilisi to Moscow under heavy guard and placed in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. Incidentally, one of the terrorists arrested in the case of the house bombings, Ruslan Magayev, is also there. Like Adam Dekkushev, he was an active member of the Wahhabi organization "Muslim Society No. 3," organized by the well-known terrorist Achimez Gochiyayev and financed through Khattab by various Islamic centers. On Gochiyayev's instructions, Magayev rented several trailers in which Dekkushev and his accomplices delivered an explosive mixture, manufactured in the Chechen town of Urus-Martan, to Moscow under the guise of granulated sugar. The bags were stored at a base and then distributed to three addresses. The bombs planted in residential buildings on Kashirskoye Highway and Guryanov Street went off. 220 people died. Another explosive device, on Borisovskie Ponds, was discovered and neutralized. Learning of this, the terrorists from Gochiyayev's group changed their plans. The next explosion was carried out in Volgodonsk, where Dekkushev and his assistants brought a truck with potatoes, under which hexogen was planted.
Yesterday, FSB investigators conducted the first interrogation of the arrested terrorist. Moreover, as it became known, for now they were mainly interested not in the details related to the organization and implementation of the terrorist attacks (this picture has already been almost completely reconstructed by the operational-investigative group), but in information about where Dekkushev's accomplices are hiding. According to the FSB, the organizer of the sabotage group Gochiyayev and his closest associates Yusuf Krymshamkhalov and Timur Batchaev may be in the Pankisi Gorge of Georgia. Another terrorist, Denis Saitakov, was killed in 2001 during a special operation in Chechnya. Field commanders Khattab and Abu Umar, who financed and trained the Karachay bombers, were also killed. In this regard, the FSB Public Relations Center stated yesterday that "punishment for all terrorists, wherever they are, will be inevitable."
