Famous human rights activist Sergei Adamovich Kovalyov, chairman of the Public Commission for the Investigation of the Bombings of Residential Buildings in Moscow and Volgodonsk, spoke about its work in an interview with Grani.Ru.

Olga Chernenkaya: Sergei Adamovich, how do you feel about the possible handover of Gochiyaev to FSB investigators?

Sergei Kovalyov: The case requires a rapid and comprehensive investigation, and from this position, the suspect Gochiyaev should be available to the investigation. But in this case, the matter is complicated by the fact that Gochiyaev is not the only suspect. And how to resolve this contradiction, I simply do not know. If the International Criminal Court could consider the events of 1999, then the bombings of residential buildings in Russia on the eve of the presidential elections are a typical case that such an instance should have dealt with. And now there is a very great danger that the transfer of Gochiyaev into the hands of investigators, in whose complete impartiality there are serious reasons to doubt, will not serve the investigation of the case, and may play a fatal role in the fate of a specific person.
